Bagram (Ancient City)
Famous for its archaeological discoveries.
Overview
Bagram, also known as Kapisa in ancient times, was one of the most important cities on the Silk Road. Originally a key strategic site for Alexander the Great (4th century BCE), it later flourished under the Kushan Empire (1st-3rd century CE). Bagram’s archaeological excavations uncovered the Bagram Treasure, a collection of Greek, Roman, Indian, and Chinese artifacts, highlighting its role as a major trading hub. The city once housed elaborate palaces, Buddhist stupas, and Hellenistic-inspired architecture, showing Afghanistan’s deep connections to Greek, Persian, and Indian civilizations. Today, it remains a symbol of the region’s historical richness and a window into the ancient world's cultural exchanges.
